A real gem for the serious cook….
A Metate is a traditional Mesoamerican grinding stone, used for processing grains, seeds, and other foods. It consists of a large, flat, or slightly concave stone (the metate) and a cylindrical hand-held stone called ‘molote’.
The molote is used to grind the food against the metate, creating a fine paste or powder. Metates are often used to grind nixtamalized corn into masa for tortillas or to prepare ingredients for other traditional dishes.
Our Metates are made from volcanic rock in order to withstand years and years of repeated use.
