Refried beans are cooked Mexican beans that have been fried in hot oil with chopped onion and blended into a smooth paste. They have a rich grey-brown colour and a subtle meatiness.
The addition of chorizo (a type of pork sausage) adds a delicious meaty flavour with a pleasant heat.
Refried beans can be served as a side dish to Mexican food and as a filling for burritos, tostadas and tacos. They are particularly tasty when paired with a salty cheese such as queso fresco or a firm feta.
Refrigerate after opening in a sealed container and use within 4 weeks.
